Singapore Boleh!!

How to best usher in 2009 you ask? For me, it is about embarking on new experiences! Therefore, for the FIRST TIME, I will be submitting something (this entry) for the "Yes, I'm Singaporean" competition.

I am proud to be born on this little red dot and I am proud to stand out from the gazillion ppl on this planet because, well, I am Uniquely Singaporean. :)

Singapore since before I could speak hv been achieving international excellence, striving to hv the best airport, tallest ferris wheel and even hitting guiness world records for longest satay chain (0_o").

Everything we hv attained has everything to do with our innate competitive streak. Afterall, we hv nothing. No oil, no land, no padi fields, only people, no? Born citizens and of course 'foreign talents' our govt is so fond of importing.

From the hard-working ppl who build the rds we walk on, to white-collared professionals and genius students, these ppl drive us to go frm rank to rank.

We complain ALOT frm cramped MRT trains to sleeping workers at our void decks. We aren't true blue Singaporeans if we don't complain hor? And it is no secret we only rant and whine but we will not put words in action because well, we are too law abiding. Not tt it is a bad thing. Heeee...

(Credits: ME!!!!)

Do wrong must pay $$ you think anybody dare to not law abiding meh???

(Credits: http://www.languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/)

Pay $$ is bad bad for poor students like myself. So we gotta wear t-shirts like this to go sleep and hopefully be reminded 24/7 of what we can or cannot do. :(

And like most Singaporeans, I follow signs. Alot of signs! Because like tt confirm will not go wrong ma..... So therefore, campaigns are the most useful propaganda promotional tools!

If it wrks of course copy and paste for every worthy cause lah! Poster cheap cheap only ma.

But then hor, I think encouraging speak gd English or Chinese is okay but not at the expense of Singlish, our most distinguishing/UNIQUE factor. The mish-mash of languages and dialect allows me to relate to my own kind whenever overseas. *will homesick wor*

Give me my lahs, lehs, lors, anyday!!! LOL!

Being very obedient, I queue for everything (of course I don't like it but I still queue anyway because if other ppl queue means its good. If it is good, I also want.)

Some friends call me kiasu when I queue for freebies like TODAY newspaper. But aft I get it, they also got read. Sian pok lor! Make so much noise in the end also want free thing. Zzz! Much as I wish all queues lead to freebie land, some queues just give me good lobang. But also can lah, I don't mind de. :)

Like Hello Kitty!!!! Shhh... Don't tell my mama, actually is maid queue for me one. :P

Or donut factory!! 2hrs siao siao stand there cannot even go toilet, the donut also so-so nia... But I still queue like 3-4 times because everybody else queuing, very tempting to join them. Hehehe!

Ever wonder how come its the dirtiest stalls tt got the longest queues???

When it comes to makan, Singaporeans can eat any time any place. Best recession-proof business can?! Oily oily, black black, char kuey teow also can become my all-time favourite lor.

Roti-prata supper aft a night out clubbing or an intensive mugging session is b.l.i.s.s! When paired with frothy teh-tarik, machiam h.e.a.v.e.n! :D

Love the fruit. Love the icon. :)

Eat so much of course must exercise right? Our govt really take care of everything!!! 44 parks scattered evenly across the whole island for us to jog, cycle or roller blade!

(Credits: www.nparks.gov.sg)

If we suaku dunno how to get there, there are 30 well-lit and wide park connectors to "guide" us from our sofa all the way! Zai anot?

And for the laziest of the lazy, there are always fitness corners below the block so NO EXCUSES!

On top of the many many parks and tree-lined roads, Singapore prides itself at being clean & green. So greenery is very much present on our tiny shores.

See our very orderly (and really look-a-like) HDB homes with pretty parks tt resemble golf courses?? No where in the world are mass housing tt adequate and sanitary lor! Awwww...

Shopping centre roof also hv grass and water...

WE EVEN HV A WHOLE ISLAND (Pulau Ubin) OF UNTOUCHED NATURE!

And for the commercialised elitist (just kidding!) or richer folks, Sentosa.

Despite our tiny size, we nv fail to be among the world's best. Which is why I always proudly show-off the sights and sounds of my homeland with foreigners.

Never in all my yrs of touring hv another country been able to capitivate me with their city skyline as well as Singapore can. Look at the colonial shophouses against the majestic skyscrapers?!? All these set along the oh-so-scenic Singapore River. MEI MEI WOR!

Oh oh oh!!!!! Beyond scenery are tourist attractions for all big & small! :)

The Singapore Flyer for the madly in love.

The Singapore Zoo with the famous late Ah Meng. Breakfast with the Orang Utan took up my fondest childhood memories with my family. :)

For the sports enthusiast and my parent's romantic hang-out, parks.

A splashing gd time for the adrenaline motivated youths!

The artsy-fartsy, the curious kaypos and the occassional tourist.

Despite a booming economy, small-time shophouses hv always been there to capture the ethnic diversity of our many races. Standing through the onslaught of time, Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam, Arab Street hv all retained their vintage and nostalgic flavours.

(Credits: Me!!!)

Multi-racial Singapore hv blessed me with friends of all colours and exposed me to cultures and lifestyles way beyond my own.

It is definitely a joy to grow up in such a vibrant city! ^^

Nevertheless, we can't live safely without the frontline defense can we?

Thanks to these men, I can tuck myself into bed and slp soundly for the past 20 yrs of my life. Compulsory national service for all male citizens is also fabulous....

(Credits: Me!!!)

..... because ah bing ge ge's are such a turn-on! Haha! :P

Last but not least, I am Uniquely Singaporean because I am sooooo used to our usage of acronyms such as COE, ERP, PIE, ECP, the list goes on and on and it's brilliant to see angmos get all blur. Heh!

(Credits: www.tnk.com.sg)

Speaking of acronyms, one major acronym I cannot live w/o is the MRT. Our extensive and efficient public transport system often earn respect frm major cities around the world but is also one of the most taken forgranted thing here.

Thanks to it, my shopping sprees and even going to sch hv been such a breeze. :)

(Credits: Me!!!)

So here, the sister, Alisa and me stand in the Nation's colours (coincidently, I just noticed tt Shaun and Rachel are in the background),

(Credits: Me!!!)

We take the pledge and sing the anthem as proud Singaporeans.

I AM A SINGAPOREAN. AND I LOVE MY COUNTRY.

Just for laughs, check this out!!

P/S: I had great fun doing this entry and everything posted is my opinion on what makes me Uniquely Singaporean and it is my opinion solely. This is just a contest, so chill yeah?
